Busy Bees Table Topper from From My Carolina Home

During our February retreat, I began this project by making a couple of hundred half square triangles using Moda Cake Mix Recipe papers, set #3. I sewed a bunch of them into pinwheels, not really knowing where the design would go next.

Without a better plan, I thought about making a smaller version of Quadrille for taking to speaking events. So, I started making those blocks. However, once I got going, I realized that the small size of these HSTs have really obscured the bee and honey theme I wanted. If I do more with the other prints, I am ...

Table Topper from Daisychain Quilter

I made this table runner for my mother many years ago using fabric I have purchased in Cyprus.

It is a simple and easy design. Very quick to make. I have made many table runners using this method. I think I will make another but this time photographing as I go so I can write up instructions.

This table topper is still being used today on my mother's coffee table. It is always a pleasure to see the items I make for family still be treasured and used as intended.

“Inside Out” Quilted Heart Wall Hanging Mini from Mulberry Patch Quilts

When I saw the Challenge from Project Quilting for this week “Inside Out” the first thing I thought of was a rag quilt, or a quilt with raw seam edges showing on the right side. NOPE. (Everyone will be doing that.)

So next I looked up the phrase online. Besides the title of a new cartoon Disney movie, most posts were about how to “birth” a quilt by sewing the top & backing/batting right sides together & leaving a seam open to turn right side out to finish it instead if binding. NOPE.

Nothing else I saw or read inspired me ...

Blue times two from The Academic Quilter

Hello everyone, and happy St. Patrick's Day! Is there green beer in your near future? I can't stand the stuff, but it's my brother's birthday, and he's always loved it. When he was a kid, he thought everyone celebrated his birthday with a fun party. I guess that's a reasonable conclusion. This year, though, I'm feeling a little under the weather so I'll just wave to all you revelers from over here on the sofa.

I have nothing green to show today, but I did finish a couple of fun blue things ...

Second Chance Quilt: Bits And Bobs Make A Quick Job (Christmas Table Topper) from Wedding Dress Blue

Susan shared a few of her bits and bobs with me.

The blocks were already 6″, so I did all I could with the assorted half-square triangles and leftover scraps, adding a few other 6″ blocks that caught my eye.

Those strips of 2″ squares became the border.

And, ta-dah!, a cute Christmas table topper or wall hanging. It finished at 30″ square.

Don’t give up on those bits and bobs (or odds and ends, or leftovers). Sometimes they are most of a pretty good idea and just need a little nudge to turn into a quick finish. That ...

Project Quilting Season 13.6 Flying Geese from Mulberry Patch Quilts

So this is the last Project Quilting challenge (season 13)for 2022. As you know the challenge quilted project can be anything (from a quilted coaster to a full sized quilt) but has to be done (start to finish) during the challenge week. It’s amazing what quilters can accomplish.

I don’t have a lot of time this week, but I really wanted to make something simple so I don’t miss out on participating this week.

I used my Electric Quilt 8 (EQ8) computer program to quickly design a doll quilt/table topper with a strip of flying ...

Sunflowers for Ukraine PQ13 Entry from Mulberry Patch Quilts

Like many of you, I can’t stop thinking about and praying for the brave people of Ukraine as they are under attack. As Lella Boutique said so beautifully in her recent blog:

“Sunflowers are powerful and relentless in their pursuit of light … It seems so fitting that Ukraine’s national flower is a sunflower. Sunflowers have become a powerful symbol of the Ukrainian people; their heart, strength, and determination to fight for the good. It’s impossible not to be inspired by their spirit. We pray for these heroic people to overcome the evil at their door. We pray ...

One-Eyed Monsters in the Living Room from Dizzy Quilts

My hubby and I decided to buy some new living room furniture for Christmas. A new beautiful dark grey couch and chair as well as new end tables. Now we have seven grand-children and I would like the new furniture to stay new-looking for a while so we protected the new couch and chair with a stain-resistant treatment and I decided to make two table toppers for the tables.

The pattern I used to make these is One-Eyed Monsters from Cheryl Brickey's book "Just One Charm Pack Quilts". I got the book for free because I was a tester ...

Drunkard’s Path quilt using interfacing from Pieced Brain

Drunkard’s Path quilt using interfacing

Make a Drunkard’s Path quilt using interfacing for a quick alternative to the slow traditional process of curved sewing! Check out a couple of projects I made with it: nope, I am not making money on this post – just showing you a product that I liked working with and that can be a great way to tackle projects that are a bit more involved to make when using traditional curved piecing.

I made this quilt a few summers ago using a Moda Fabrics charm pack (5″ squares) and yardage of a light cream fabric for the background. I love ...

Hello There,
This week has flown by with a bit of Christmas shopping, sewing and reading!  I hope you enjoy reading the last of our Stayed On Him series, a new Zoom book discussion I joined, how I'm still a tad bit in the negative with my stash, the cute little softies I'm making for my grandbabies and my digital gratitude journal!
Time for this week's post.  Here's is an index should you have a special interest you like to read first!

The best-laid plans from The Academic Quilter

Hi everyone! Here we are at the last weekend in July. How is that even possible? This was a very productive week for us here at the AQ household. Last weekend we decided to take down the enormous mirror that took up an entire wall in our bathroom. Seriously, it was about 8 feet by 6 feet. Huge! If you've ever wanted to watch yourself shower, this was the mirror for you! We managed to get it down, in many, many pieces, only to discover that there really wasn't a wall behind it. They had put the mirror ...

Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue! from From the Strawberry Patch...

Inspired by the runners and table toppers that I saw on Doodlebugs and Rosebuds blog a short while ago, I decided to try my hand at some of these. I found this great patriotic border print and grabbed my 60 degree ruler. In no time at all I had these two runners and a table topper pieced and ready to go. I loaded one piece of backing fabric, sandwiched in some left over batting scraps, and

Blue and Yellow Table Topper from From My Carolina Home

When I made the blue and yellow version of To The Nines, I didn’t know when I started how big I wanted to make that quilt. I made nine patches with width of fabric strips, and ended up with a lot more than I needed. I really cannot use the other topper as it is now part of my trunk show, so another topper needed to be made.

I had plenty of yellow to sew alternating patches with the nine patch blocks.

The top went together quickly.

Now for borders, the first one is white to separate the main ...

AccuquiltGo! Thoughts & Bear’s Paw Block from Mulberry Patch Quilts

I purchased an Accuquilt Go die cutter awhile ago and have made so many great projects with it, including tumbler block baby quilts and Dresden Plate table toppers. But I wanted to use a combination of dies to create some other basic, well-known quilting blocks.

My original purchase of my AccuquiltGo! included a combination die (above). It has on it a 2” finished square, a couple 2” finished half square triangles (HST), and a 4” finished square.

Hey, that’s all I need to make the basic Bear’s Claw block! Perfect.

I haven’t yet purchased any of the ...

Crossing Petals kits available at Sweet Treasures Quilts from Carried Away Quilting

It’s the first week of March, and we are finally experiencing seasonally appropriate weather in Minnesota. The polar vortex is gone! High temps are in the 40s (F), the sun is shining and the bird are chirping. Although we still have some snow on the ground, it is melting slowly. Spring is just around the corner. Halleluiah!

If you are looking for a quick spring sewing project, then the team at Sweet Treasures Quilts has the perfect idea for you! They have kitted up a lovely version of my Crossing Petals pattern, featuring a collection of prints by Lella ...
